Swim Classifications
Guppy
Swimmer is comfortable in the water by him/herself but is still learning basic swimming skills. No flotation devices can be used during practice but swimmers will have direct supervision by coaches. The Guppy program is limited to insure a ratio of one coach per four Guppies. During the season Guppies will learn beginner swim stroke and breathing techniques. Coaches will be in the water with swimmers during lessons, but Guppies should be able to touch the bottom of the pool in the shallow end. Guppies can participate in Guppy races at meets but will have a catcher (older swimmer) in the water (within an arm's length) at all times. Guppies can use a kick-board for races.
* Please note that the Guppy program is limited to 12 swimmers only. This is to insure that the coaches can spend enough time teaching each Guppy. Also, prior Swim Team members will be given priority. Once we reach 12 Guppies, we will put any other interested swimmers on a Wait List. As Guppies move up to the Minnows group, those on the Wait List will be eligible to join.
Minnow
Swimmer should be comfortable swimming a few lengths of the pool unassisted. Minnows have the basic stroke techniques down but still need additional technique instruction and to build strength/stamina. Coaches will focus on building stroke technique and swimmer confidence. This is a new level for 2016.
Shark
Swimmer should be comfortable with all stroke techniques and be strong enough to swim multiple lengths of the pool. Coaches will provide specific instruction to help swimmer improve swim technique and speed.
Senior Shark
Our most advanced and generally oldest swimmers. Swimmer is comfortable with all stroke techniques and strong enough to swim multiple lengths of the pool. Coaches will provide advanced instruction to improve swim technique and speed.
We are in need of older swimmers (Sharks/Senior Sharks) to stay in the water with the Guppies during their races. We ask that Guppy Helpers stay for Guppy practice at least once per week.
